What are Reference Checks and Why are They Done?

Managers and/or colleagues listed by you as references can provide an assessment of your capabilities and work record. References can include personal and professional relationships. There are specific regulations that govern what types of questions can be asked. These questions usually cover the length of time you worked at the organisation or if that previous employer would rehire you. This check is also known as a character or professional reference check.
